Velocity Underground is a fast-paced street racing experience set across a neon-lit city where players compete in underground events, improve their vehicles, and climb through the racing scene. The project focuses on responsive arcade-style vehicle handling, high-speed races, vehicle progression, customization, and a nighttime open-world atmosphere.

A fast-paced arcade street racer featuring responsive vehicle handling, underground race events, AI opponents, car customization, performance upgrades and progression across a neon nighttime city. My Contribution

Built the prototype around fast, readable arcade racing with accessible controls and a strong sense of speed.

Separated vehicle control, race management, checkpoints, AI rivals, and progression into independent systems.

Structured customization, upgrades, and event flow so additional vehicles, tracks, and race types could be added cleanly.

Process

Focused first on vehicle acceleration, steering, braking, drifting, and traction so the handling stayed responsive without feeling weightless.

Kept race logic modular by splitting vehicle movement, race-state flow, checkpoint tracking, AI behavior, and progression into separate systems.

Used the garage, event selection, HUD, minimap, and reward loop to frame the project as a complete underground racing experience rather than a single driving mechanic.

Workflow Model

Tune arcade handling, drifting response, traction, braking, and boost feel.

Implement circuit, sprint, and checkpoint race structures with lap, position, and checkpoint tracking.

Add AI rivals, garage flow, vehicle upgrades, visual customization, and event selection.

Support long-term progression through rewards, leaderboards, time challenges, and nighttime city atmosphere.

Issues Solved

Balanced accessible arcade steering and braking with enough speed, drift response, and traction control to reward player skill.

Separated race architecture into reusable systems so more tracks, event types, and vehicles could be added without reworking the whole prototype.

Kept HUD, minimap, checkpoints, and progression readable during high-speed nighttime races.

End Result

A stylish arcade street-racing prototype that demonstrates responsive vehicle handling, modular race architecture, AI racers, customization flow, and progression systems inside a neon-lit city setting.

Next Improvements

Add gameplay footage for active race previews and garage flow when public captures are available.

Expand the track pool, vehicle roster, and event variety using the existing modular systems.

Refine leaderboard and time-trial competition around the current race-management framework.
